Diuron plus Metolachlor

Rates quoted in HerbiGuide are for a 1:1 mixture of Diuron 900g/kg granules plus S-metolachlor 960g/L (e.g. Dual Gold). A rate of 1000 g/mL of the mixture is equivalent to 500 g of Diuron900 granules plus 500 mL of S-metolachlor 960. (or 1000 mL flowable Diuron 500g/L plus 1000 mL Metolachlor 720g/L).

See the individual products, Diuron and Metolachlor for further information.

6 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

A pre-emergence, mainly root absorbed, residual agricultural herbicide usually applied as pre planting spray to a wide range of broadacre crops.

7 APPLICATION METHODS AND TIPS:

Best results when applied to bare, moist, flat, clod-free soil and light rain incorporates the herbicide soon after spraying.

Add a knockdown herbicide if green weeds are present.

Heavy rain after application or water harvesting planting furrows may concentrate herbicide and increase the risk of crop damage.

8 WEATHER:

Rainfast immediately. Heavy rain soon after application may increase the risk of crop damage especially on light soils.

Frost effects: No effect.

Wind: Little effect

Inversions: Avoid spraying during inversions as drift of diuron component may have some post-emergence activity.

Temperature: Little effect.

Delta T and relative humidity: No effect.

9 ADJUVANTS:

Wetting agents: Not required.

Spray oils: Not required.

10 WATER QUALITY:

Hard water: Do a jar test.

Salty water: Do a jar test.

Colloids: Little effect.

pH: Do a jar test if very acid or alkaline.

Tank life: 24 hours. Tends to settle. Will last days if it is kept agitated. Tank life can be very short when mixed with paraquat and/or diquat unless it is kept very well agitated.

11 COMPATIBILITY:

Trace elements. Compatible with most trace elements.

See HerbiGuide Compatibilities button.

12 EQUIPMENT:

Boom sprays:

Carrier volume: 50-1000 L/ha

Nozzles: Flat fan.

Pressure: 150-400 kPa.

Droplet size: Use coarser droplets to reduce drift.

Aerial application:

Carrier volume: 30 L/ha.

13 SPRAYER DECONTAMINATION:

Clean Up:

Clean soon after spraying to reduce the risk of forming dried deposits that may be difficult to remove. Mechanically removed any caked deposits.

Remove filters and clean separately. Rinse with soapy water (e.g. 500 mL or g of Drive, Dynamo, Omo or Surf per 100 L water) or water plus 0.25% wetting agent and run through boom. Rinse with water.

Decontamination:

Remove filters and clean then soak in 500 mL household ammonia in 10 L water for 30 minutes.

Rinse sprayer with soapy water (e.g. 500 mL or g of Drive, Dynamo, Omo or Surf per 100 L water) or water plus 0.25% wetting agent and run through boom. Add 1 L of household ammonia (3% active ingredient) per 100 L water while filling the tank. Circulate through the system and spray a small quantity through the boom then allow to stand for several hours. Rinse with soapy water or water plus 0.25% wetting agent. Rinse with water. Or use a commercial spray tank and equipment cleaner.

Rinse nozzles and filters in water and replace then rinse the whole system with water again.

14 HERBICIDE RESISTANCE:

Tolerant plants are expected to occur and may dominate the weed population after repeated applications.

15 REPLANTING INTERVALS:

See individual products.

16 WITHHOLDING PERIODS:

See individual products.

17 RE-ENTRY PERIOD:

Wear protective clothing if in contact with the crop before the spray has dried.

18 PROTECTIVE CLOTHING:

Overalls, boots and washable hat. Use gloves and face shield when handling the concentrate.

19 SOIL:

Soil texture: Crop damage is more likely on very sandy soils.

Soil pH: Little effect.

Soil organic matter:

Soil moisture at application: Best results on moist soil.

20 MODE OF ACTION:

See individual products.

21 SELECTIVITY:

Crop tolerance:

The combination of diuron and metolachlor appears to be safer on cereals than either product alone.

Varietal sensitivities:

Carnamah, Stiletto and Wyalkatchem wheat appear to be sensitive.

Barley and oats appear to be more tolerant than wheat.

Effect on Clover Species:

Little effect.

Effect on Medic Species:

Little effect.

Effect on Lucerne:

Little effect.

Effect on Native Plants:

Little effect.
