8. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

A group 3A, synthetic pyrethroid, contact and residual insecticide and miticide.

9. APPLICATION METHODS AND TIPS:

Apply by ground or aircraft. Aim for droplets in the 150-200 micron range. Thorough coverage is essential. Spray during the cooler parts of the day or at night. The addition of 500 g of salt per 100 L of spray solution may improve the control of sucking insects.
Synthetic latex surfactants such as Bond improve control slightly under normal conditions and improve rainfastness and have maintained control levels with up to 50 mm rainfall after spraying.
Agitate during mixing and spraying.
Dangerous to bees. Don't spray flowering plants when bees are foraging. Early morning spraying can avoid bees.
Don't use on insects that have survived previous synthetic pyrethroid sprays.

10. ADJUVANTS, WETTERS, OILS:

Use an adjuvant on hard to wet crops and for high volume spraying

11. EQUIPMENT:

Hollow cone nozzles preferred for boom spraying. Flat fan nozzles are adequate for broad acre crop spraying.

12. SPRAYER WASH OUT AND DECONTAMINATION:

13. WATER OR CARRIER DATA:

Apply in 20-1000 L/ha water.
Boom and ground spraying - 50-200 L water/ha with 150-200 micron droplets.
High volume and hand spraying - 1000 L water/ha with 150-200 micron droplets.
Aerial - 20 L water /ha minimum.
In furrow applications - 60-100 L water/ha.
Don't apply as a fog or mist.

14. WEATHER:

15. RAINFASTNESS:

20 minutes.

16. SOIL:

17. PLANT HEALTH and OTHER EFFECTS:

Generally has good crop safety.

18. WITHHOLDING PERIODS:

19. PLANT BACK PERIODS or RECROPPING INTERVALS:

20. MODE OF ACTION:

A group 3A, non systemic, residual synthetic pyrethroid insecticide with contact and stomach action.
It is a voltage dependent sodium channel agonist.

21. PESTICIDE RESISTANCE:

Some populations are or will become resistant.
Don't use on insects that have survived previous synthetic pyretroid sprays.

22. TOXICITY:

Poison schedule - S
Summary: Poisonous if swallowed. Attacks eyes. Irritates skin.
Main exposure routes - Handling concentrate.
Details:
Poison schedule - S6
Mammalian toxicity -
Acute oral LD50 - 531 mg/kg (rats). Harmful if swallowed. [For comparison table salt is 3000 mg/kg]
Acute dermal LD50 - >2000 mg/kg (rabbit) for Bifenthrin. Formulating agent iso octyl alcohol may be more toxic.
Skin - Low toxicity. LD50 > 2000. Skin sensitisation may occur. Bifenfenthrin in non irritating but product is irritating.
Eye - Bifenthrin non irritant. Solvents are irritating.
Vapour inhalation - LC50 - 4.9 mg/L/4hrs air (rat).
Chronic oral toxicity NOEL - ppm for two years.
Not carcinogenic, mutagenic or teratogenic in tests (i.e. does not cause cancer or reproductive problems).
Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) - 0.01 mg/kg/day.

23. TOXICITY SYMPTOMS:

If swallowed - Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, muscle tremors, central nervous system tremors, clonic convulsions, bloody nose and central nervous system depression. If patient is uncoordinated then vomit may have entered the lungs causing complications.
If on skin - irritation, degreasing.
May lead to irritant contact dermatitis.
May cause transient tingling, itching, burning and numbness of skin that can last up to 36 hours.
If in eyes - irritation.
If inhaled - headaches, dizziness, nausea, irritation of mucous membranes and respiratory tract. High exposure may lead to central nervous system depression, loss of coordination, and judgement and unconsciousness.
Chronic exposure may lead to tremors.

24. FIRST AID:

If in Eyes - Flush with water immediately for 15 minutes.
If swallowed - Rinse mouth with water and give plenty of water to drink. Don't give milk, alcohol or oils. Activated charcoal may be used. If more than 15 minutes from medical attention then and induce vomiting preferably with Ipecac Syrup APF. Contact a doctor.
If on skin - wash with soap and water then seek medical attention for isooctyl alcohol toxicity. Apply vitamin E cream to exposed areas.
If inhaled - Remove patient from source of vapour. Remove contaminated clothing. Keep warm and comfortable. Keep at rest. If breathing laboured and patient blue, ensure airways are clear then give oxygen. If breathing stops give artificial respiration. If heart stops give cardiac massage. Seek medical advice.
Advice to Doctor - Treat symptomatically. Vitamin E cream has therapeutic value in relieving skin pain.
