Neck Rot of Allium

Botrytis allii

Description:

A fungal disease of stored Onions. The top of the bulb is afflicted by a soft rot which may develop a grey, furry hyphal growth that produces black spore bodies up to 5 mm in diameter. Sometimes these develop under the outer skin and may not be seen until the Onion is peeled.

Onions

Harvest onions carefully at the right stage after the tops have fully dried, then cure them correctly in well ventilated areas.

Don't cut tops too close to the bulb.

Destroy crop debris.

Rotate crops.
